The Trans-Cultural Study Guide:
suggesting the questions that help you
enter and understand a new society
The Trans-Cultural Study Guide is simply a collection
of thousands of questions, organized by topic, that
help the inquisitive traveler begin to understand a
new society. It was written by members of Volunteers
in Asia who committed themselves to longer-term service
and who needed to understand the new culture in which
they found themselves.
The topics range from economics and politics to social
structure, roles of women and men, religion and beliefs,
music and art, food, education, communications, and
health and welfare. It suggests a thousand different
ways to start a meaningful conversation in a new culture.
